snow day

Deric texted me Tuesday morning to tell me it was snowing. I glanced out the window and was disheartened to see tiny flakes that surely wouldn't amount to anything, but they kept on comin' all day. By noon, Deric was home from work for the day and schools were closed (not that it matters to me, but I still find myself watching school cancellations on the news) and we were entertaining ourselves by watching numerous cars attempting the big hill at the end of the road only to decide against it, park at the church next door and walk back home. (We aren't awful people, btw, we asked them if they wanted a ride.) Anyways, our glorious snowed-in afternoon consisted of Downton Abbey and chai tea, followed by naps and reading lots of books. And then I figured since everyone was out of school/work then I at least shouldn't clean the house. That's fair, right?

eight monther

Jake at eight months:
Babbles constantly, especially "dada" (although he hasn't associated it with Deric quite yet)
Still loves to roar
Loves to walk (assisted by us)
Tries to pull himself up
Still couldn't care about crawling or tummy time
Back to being swaddled in order to get a good night's sleep
Two bottom teeth on the horizon
Laughs so hard when we say letter sounds or animal noises; as a result, "Mr. Brown Can Moo" is a favorite of his

We're so glad he's around to keep us entertained during this otherwise dull and frigid January! He is such a happy guy and makes our days much more fun.

Christmas in Destin

A few days after Christmas, we drove down south to Florida to spend the week with my family. My parents found a great house right on the beach and even though it was chilly, we all made it out to the beach at least once a day to throw a frisbee, dig a giant hole, and dip our fingers (not toes) into the water. A few of us were brave enough to paddleboard, and there's no motivation to keep your balance than the threat of freezing water below. When we weren't on the beach, we spent the majority of our time playing board games (especially Ticket to Ride), eating, more eating, using Mom's exercise bands as catapults, geocaching, and not showering. ;) Despite a rocky end to our week (a shredded timing belt after we just replaced it and a sick baby), we still thoroughly enjoyed our time with family as a new year kicked off. Thanks, Mom & Dad, for our destination Christmas!
